Frequently Asked Questions
What is an SVG offset path?
An offset path is an outline or border layer created around your design at a fixed distance. For vinyl crafting, offset layers create shadow effects, backing layers, or borders when stacking multiple vinyl colors.
What is this used for?
The most common uses are: shadow layers for layered vinyl (a black layer behind a colorful design), white backing layers for dark fabrics (HTV), borders for stickers/decals, and creating knockout effects for multi-layer projects.
What do the join types mean?
Join type controls how corners look on the offset. Round creates smooth rounded corners (best for most designs). Miter creates sharp pointed corners (good for geometric designs). Bevel creates flat cut corners.
Is my SVG uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your file never leaves your computer.
Can I use different offset distances for different layers?
Yes! Download the offset layer at one distance, then upload the same original SVG again and generate a second offset at a different distance. Stack them in your cutting software: largest offset on bottom, then smaller offset, then original on top.
