How It Works

3 simple steps to perfect SVGs

STEP 1

Upload your scan

Drag & drop any scanned blueprint, floor plan, or hand-drawn sketch. PNG, JPG, TIFF accepted. Works with old blueprints, field sketches, or whiteboard photos.

STEP 2

AI traces the drawing

Our AI identifies lines, walls, dimensions, and symbols. Creates clean vector paths with proper line weights. Removes scan artifacts for clean, traceable output.

STEP 3

Download & import to CAD

Get your SVG or DXF file and import directly into AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Vectorworks, or ArchiCAD. Clean vectors mean faster CAD editing and less manual retracing.

A scan is a picture of a drawing, not a drawing

The gap between a scanned plan and a usable CAD file is not resolution, it is topology. CAM software needs closed polylines with real coordinates. A scan gives you grey pixels that happen to look like lines.

What conversion genuinely gives you: clean vector paths that follow the ink, at the right proportions, in DXF with units set. What it cannot give you is the intent behind the drawing. Dimensions, tolerances, layer meaning and which line is a cut rather than a fold are decisions a person made, and a tracer cannot recover them.

Treat the output as a faithful trace to build on, not as an engineering document. It saves you the tracing, which is the boring part. The checking stays yours.

Units and extents: the detail that wastes the most material

The most common failure with a converted DXF is not a wrong shape, it is a wrong size. A file that arrives without units, or with an arbitrary bounding box, has to be rescaled by eye against something whose dimension you know — and eyes are wrong by a few percent, which is a ruined part.

Ours are written as AutoCAD 2000 (AC1015) with INSUNITS set and extents correct, so a part measuring 169 by 113 mm arrives as 169 by 113 mm. If your workflow begins by rescaling an import, something upstream is throwing away information you should not have to reconstruct.

Where the scan is of a printed plan with a scale bar, measure the bar after import. If it reads true, everything else does.

When the source is not worth converting

Some scans should be redrawn rather than traced, and knowing which saves more time than any setting.

  • Photographed at an angle. Perspective distortion makes every dimension wrong by a different amount. Rescan flat, or redraw.
  • Faint pencil or blue-line originals. Low contrast produces broken paths that look complete at 100% and fall apart in CAM.
  • Below about 256 px on the short side. Measured across our own corpus, that is where detail stops existing rather than being merely small. Above 1024 px, fine linework generally survives.

A signage firm sent us a logo this month that converted badly. The reason took one measurement: the source was 150 by 65 pixels. Nothing recovers what was never recorded, and saying so early is cheaper than proving it late.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! VectoSolve outputs standard SVG and DXF files that import directly into AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, and all Autodesk products. The clean vector paths maintain proper line weights and are ready for editing, dimensioning, and further CAD work.

Yes. Our AI is trained to handle low-contrast scans, faded ink, and aged paper. It enhances edges and reconstructs lines even from poor-quality scans. For best results, scan at 300+ DPI with even lighting.

Absolutely. Take a clear photo of your field sketch or whiteboard drawing, upload it, and the AI will create clean vector paths. Perfect for converting rough site measurements into CAD-ready drawings.

VectoSolve traces the visual elements as vector paths. It creates accurate geometric representations of architectural symbols. While it doesn't generate CAD blocks, the clean vectors make it easy to replace traced symbols with standard CAD blocks in your software.

On a clean, high-contrast scan the trace follows the drawn lines closely: they are straightened, angles normalized and curves smoothed. But treat every dimension as unverified until you check it. This is a tracing tool, not a measurement tool, and a page that has been printed and rescanned rarely matches its nominal scale. Measure one edge you know the true size of in your CAD software and rescale the whole drawing by that ratio before you cut anything.

One annual plan unlocks everything — $49/year (just $4.08/mo): 300 conversions/year with unused credits rolling over, every niche mode, all export formats, batch convert, and a commercial-use license. Try any conversion free first — you only pay when you're ready. At $200+/hour for architect time, one conversion pays for itself many times over.

VectoSolve outputs work with all major CAD software: AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Vectorworks, ArchiCAD, Rhino, BricsCAD, DraftSight, and more. Standard SVG/DXF formats ensure universal compatibility.

Yes! Upload and convert each scanned page one at a time — each conversion takes just 2-5 seconds. Unused credits roll over from month to month, so you can work through an entire blueprint set at your own pace. Each page becomes a separate vector file ready for CAD import.
