Free Cut File Checker

Catch the problems that ruin a cut before you waste material: double lines that burn twice, loops that look closed but have a gap, open paths, and the LightBurn empty-CUT-layer trap. For laser (Glowforge, xTool, LightBurn), Cricut and CNC. Runs in your browser, nothing uploaded.

How It Works

Check your cut file in three simple steps

1

Upload SVG

Drag and drop your .svg file. The checker analyzes it instantly in your browser.

2

Review Issues

See your compatibility score and a detailed breakdown of every issue: open paths, text, gradients, tiny details.

3

Fix & Download

Click Auto-Fix to resolve common issues automatically. Download the cleaned SVG ready for Design Space.

What We Check

Every issue that can ruin a cut, caught before you press Start

Double Lines

Two identical paths stacked on top of each other. The laser cuts the same line twice: a double burn. Auto-fix removes the copies.

Micro-Gaps

Loops that look closed on screen but have a sub-pixel gap, so the laser reads them as open. We catch them and snap them shut.

CUT vs Engrave

Filled shapes import as engrave in LightBurn, which is why your CUT layer looks empty. We flag it and tell you the two-click fix.

Real Size

Reads width, height and viewBox to show the true physical size in mm and inches, so you cut the part at the size you meant.

Open Paths

Outlines that do not return to their start. Fine for a score line, but a cut-out shape will not release cleanly. Auto-fix closes them.

Fine Detail

Shapes too small for the design that can char and fuse on a laser, tear on a blade, or be impossible to weed.

Excessive Nodes

Paths with 5,000+ nodes that freeze Design Space and make a laser controller stutter on tight curves.

Color Layers

Each unique color usually becomes its own cut or engrave operation. See exactly how many layers your file will create.

Text to Outlines

Detects live text that must be converted to paths. Cutting software can substitute a font, shift it, or skip it entirely.

Gradients & Filters

Machines ignore gradients, blurs and shadows. We flag them so you can flatten to solid fills before cutting.

Missing viewBox

Without a viewBox your software may scale the file wrong, so the part cuts at the wrong size. We detect and auto-fix this.

Embedded Rasters

A hidden bitmap inside a vector file cannot be cut: it engraves at best, does nothing at worst. We catch and strip it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What machines does this checker work for?
Any vector cutting machine: laser cutters (Glowforge, xTool, OMTech, anything running LightBurn or Lightburn-style software), Cricut and Silhouette blade cutters, and CNC routers. The checks (open paths, double lines, micro-gaps, embedded rasters, physical size) matter to all of them. It reads SVG files.
What are double lines and why do they ruin a laser cut?
A double line is two identical paths sitting directly on top of each other. On screen it looks like one line, so it is easy to miss, but a laser cuts the same path twice: a double burn, scorched edges, and wasted time. It is one of the most common reasons a clean-looking file cuts badly. This checker detects stacked duplicates and the auto-fix removes the redundant copies.
My shape looks closed but the laser says it is open. Why?
The start and end point of the loop do not quite meet, leaving a sub-pixel gap. The fill on your monitor hides it, but a laser reads it as an open loop, so the part may not separate from the sheet and the cut can wander. This checker flags these micro-gaps specifically, and the auto-fix snaps them closed.
Why is my CUT layer empty in LightBurn?
When you convert a filled graphic (a logo or silhouette), every region is a filled vector with no outline stroke. LightBurn reads filled vectors as Fill/Image work, which is engrave, so your red CUT layer can look empty even though the geometry is perfect. To cut the outline instead: select the shapes, click a different layer color, then set that layer's mode to Line. The file is fine; you are just choosing the operation. This checker tells you when a file is all-fill so you are not caught out.
What are open paths and why do they matter?
An open path is an outline that does not return to its starting point. For an intentional score or engrave line that is fine, but for a cut-out shape the part will not release cleanly. Our auto-fix can close open paths automatically when you want solid cut shapes.
Will the checker tell me the real size of my file?
Yes. It reads the width, height and viewBox and shows the physical size in millimetres and inches, so you can confirm a part is the size you intended before you cut. If the file has no units it assumes 96 DPI and marks the size as approximate, which is itself a useful warning that the scale is ambiguous.
Does this work for Cricut Design Space too?
Yes. It flags the things Design Space struggles with: open paths, text not converted to outlines, gradients and filters it ignores, embedded raster images it cannot cut, and very fine detail under the blade's limit. The auto-fix closes paths, removes gradients and strips filters.
Is this tool free? Is my file uploaded anywhere?
Yes, it is 100% free with no limits and no login. Your SVG is analyzed entirely in your browser using JavaScript: it is never uploaded to any server. Your designs stay completely private.
