Bambu Lab A2L  ·  Cutting module  ·  File-prep manual, written at launch, verified June 2026

The A2L is eleven days old. Bambu Suite already has a year of ways to ruin your cut file.

The cutting module is the same hardware the H2D has carried since 2025, and the H2D forums kept the receipts: live text gets dropped, an 80 mm square can import at 106.7 mm and cut at 106.7 mm, and a PNG cannot be assigned to Basic Cut at all.

Bambu's official guide compresses file preparation into one sentence. This page is the rest of it.

Six ways Bambu Suite ruins a file, with receipts

Every one of these is documented in the Bambu forum or the official docs. Dates and measured numbers, not vibes.

01

Your 80 mm design cuts at 106.7 mm

The receiptForum thread "Dimension error Bambu Suite": an 80 x 80 mm square exported through Inkscape imported, and cut, at 106.7 mm. The ratio is exactly 96/72, the oldest DPI mismatch in vector graphics.

The moveCheck the millimeter dimensions in Suite after every import. If exact size is critical, import the DXF instead: same geometry, reported true to size.

02

Live text renders wrong or vanishes

The receiptA vinyl-cutting writeup from April 2025 spells it out: convert type to curves before export, "Bambu Suite will not recognize the embedded fonts". A support ticket about loading installed macOS fonts got an official answer: no current plans.

The moveNever send live text to Suite. Outline it in your design tool, or use a traced SVG where every letter is already a closed path.

03

A PNG cannot be assigned to Basic Cut. At all.

The receiptOfficial Suite documentation: bitmaps are limited to "Laser image" and "Print then cut" process types. The A2L has no laser, and at launch its Print-then-Cut was announced for "an upcoming OTA update". For blade cutting, a raw image is dead weight on this machine.

The moveVectorize first. A closed-path SVG unlocks Basic Cut, Drawing Line and Drawing Fill, which was the entire 2D menu the A2L had at launch.

04

Multi-color SVGs crash Suite on Make

The receiptAugust 2025, reproduced on three machines including under Rosetta and a Windows VM: "Bambu Suite has a problem with certain SVG files, especially multi color ones". The crash hits at the Make step, after you have done all the setup work.

The moveFeed Suite simple, cleanly separated color paths: one layer per color, no gradients, no clipping masks. That is what a flat trace produces.

05

Laminated vinyl fails the cut calibration

The receiptThere is no preset for laminated sticker sheets, and per the forum "the material thickness setting makes no difference". Stock settings fail the initial calibration cut.

The moveCreate a custom material with higher blade pressure and dial it in with test cuts on a corner of the sheet. Community-found, not documented.

06

Your layout rearranges itself in Prepare

The receiptObjects auto-arrange when entering the Prepare stage unless you Attach them first, and Attach is sometimes greyed out. Suite 1.2.2 added a "Keep Design Layout" preference. It ships disabled.

The moveFlip Keep Design Layout on before your first job, and Attach grouped objects in Design before switching stages.

Fair note: Bambu Suite ships a free built-in Trace tool, and for a single-color silhouette it is genuinely fine. Where it stops helping is exactly where the receipts above start: separating colors into per-layer cut paths, outlining text safely, and cleaning up photo edges. The converter at the top does those three things, which is the difference between a file Suite tolerates and a file Suite cannot break.

What the blade actually cuts

From Bambu Lab's processable materials list and the A2L spec sheet, checked June 2026.

Those are laser materials, and the A2L will never get a laser: Bambu excluded laser modules for safety on the open frame. That is the H2 series' job. On the A2L, engraved looks are done with the pen module and Drawing Fill.

The full workflow, file to finished cut

Bambu's wiki covers the hardware install and the Suite buttons. The file is on you.

  1. 1

    Make the file cut-ready

Upload any PNG, JPG, logo or sketch to the converter above. The trace outputs closed paths, outlined lettering and one layer per color. This is the step the official guide calls "import the pattern you want to process".

  2. 2

    Import into Bambu Suite 1.3.0+

Drop the SVG on the canvas. First thing, every time: check the millimeter dimensions against your design (receipt 01). Then assign each layer to Basic Cut, Drawing Line or Drawing Fill.

  3. 3

    Mat, align, cut

Stick the material on the LightGrip or StrongGrip mat from the kit. Photograph the platform with Bambu Handy 3.21.0+ to place the job on the real sheet. Run the cut, weed with the included tool.

Printer first, cutter included

The blade module is the same part Bambu sells for the H2 series. The price of entry is not.

No adapter is needed on the A2L: the toolhead has the adapter board built in. At launch, Print-then-Cut on the A2L was announced for a future OTA update, with Basic Cut, Drawing Line and Drawing Fill available from day one. Prices and specs above were checked in June 2026.

First cuts A2L owners are making

Each one starts the same way: a clean, closed-path SVG of the design.

HTV shirt design

Trace, mirror in Suite, Basic Cut on heat transfer vinyl, weed, press. Letters survive because they arrive as paths. Verify dimensions before cutting a full sheet.

Die-cut sticker sheet

Each sticker as its own closed path, laid out on PVC adhesive sticker material. Plain shapes cut without it; full Print-then-Cut contours depend on the OTA update Bambu announced at launch.

Layered cardstock art

A multi-color trace gives one layer per color. Cut each from its own sheet, stack with foam adhesive. The separation is the part Suite cannot do from a flat image.

Pen-plotted line art

Outline layer to Drawing Line with a marker in the pen holder, solid lettering to Drawing Fill. Suite ships only three single-line fonts, so outlined text from the trace is the workaround.

Decals for finished prints

Print the model, swap to the cutting module, cut the label from adhesive vinyl. One machine, both halves of the job, same source image.

Reflective gear tags

Reflective sheet is on the official materials list. Trace a name or icon, Basic Cut, apply to helmets and bags. Small details weed best from clean closed shapes.

Bambu Lab A2L SVG questions

Does the Bambu Lab A2L cut vinyl?

Yes. HTV, PVC adhesive stickers and reflective sheets are on the official materials list, alongside paper, cardstock, pearl paper and PU leatherette up to 0.5 mm. Cutting area is 300 x 300 mm, and both LightGrip and StrongGrip mats come in the kit. Wood, acrylic and felt are not blade-cuttable.

What file formats does Bambu Suite accept?

PNG, JPG, JPEG, BMP, SVG, DXF and AI. But bitmaps cannot be assigned to Basic Cut: they are limited to laser process types, and the A2L has no laser. Convert images to vector SVG first, then assign Basic Cut, Drawing Line or Drawing Fill.

Why is my SVG the wrong size after import?

The 96 vs 72 DPI unit mismatch: an 80 mm square has been measured importing and cutting at 106.7 mm. Verify dimensions in Suite after every import and rescale to your target millimeters. DXF of the same geometry imports at true size if exact dimensions are critical.

Why does my text disappear or break in Bambu Suite?

Suite does not read fonts referenced in an SVG and will not load your installed fonts. Convert text to curves before exporting, or use a traced SVG where the lettering is already closed paths.

Can the A2L laser engrave?

No. Bambu Lab excluded laser modules from the A2L for safety reasons on its open frame; lasers are H2 series only. The pen module with Drawing Fill is the A2L way to get drawn or filled artwork.

Is Print-then-Cut available on the A2L?

Not at launch. Bambu announced it for an upcoming OTA update. When we checked in June 2026, the A2L offered Basic Cut, Drawing Line and Drawing Fill, with alignment done by photographing the platform in the Bambu Handy app. Check Bambu’s latest release notes for the current status.
