A JPG is pixels, so an honest JPG to EPS conversion has to redraw it as paths before it writes any PostScript. VectoSolve removes the background, traces the image into closed vector shapes and writes an EPS that Illustrator, CorelDRAW and Affinity Designer open as editable artwork. JPEG compression is what limits the result: the cleaner the JPG, the cleaner the paths. Free preview, no signup.
What the print shop checks when your EPS arrives
Promotional suppliers, sign makers and screen printers ask for EPS because their art departments edit the file: they separate colours, offset cut lines and resize the mark for each product. All of that needs paths. An EPS that only wraps a JPG passes the file-type check and fails the moment someone zooms in.
Two checks take ten seconds, and they are the ones the shop will run:
- Click one shape. In a real vector EPS you can select a single letter or a single colour area. If the whole image selects as one block, it is a picture.
- Zoom to 800 percent. Paths stay sharp. Pixels turn into squares.
The EPS written here passes both, because the shapes are traced before the file is written. The same trace also gives you an .ai file when the supplier wants Illustrator, or an SVG for the web and cutting machines.
Getting a clean trace out of a JPG
- Use the biggest file you can find. A logo at 1000 pixels wide or more traces cleanly. One lifted from a website at 300 pixels has no clean edge to follow.
- Avoid photos of printed things. A phone picture of a business card or a T-shirt adds perspective, shadow and fabric texture, and the trace keeps them.
- Crop to the artwork. Everything in the frame is traced, including a table edge or a watermark.
- Ask for the original before anything else. Whoever made the customer's signage or business cards usually still has a vector file. An original always beats a trace.
If what you have is a PNG, the PNG to EPS route is the better start, because a PNG keeps its edges and can already be transparent. For a customer logo headed to several suppliers, Logo to EPS covers the outlined-fonts question.

6 questions about JPG to EPS conversion
Because that EPS still contains the same pixels. Photoshop can write an EPS, but it wraps the bitmap: nothing is redrawn. A print shop that asks for EPS wants paths it can scale, separate and cut, and a wrapped JPG fails the first time someone enlarges it. This conversion traces the image into paths first, which is the step that makes the EPS useful.
A JPG cannot be transparent, so the white around a logo is part of the picture. The converter removes the background before tracing. Near-white areas inside the design can go with it, so check white lettering and highlights in the preview before you unlock the file.
More than any setting. JPEG saves space by smearing colour around sharp edges, which leaves a halo of off-colour pixels that the trace can follow. Use the largest, least compressed version you have. A JPG that has been re-saved several times, or a screenshot of one, gives wobblier edges. If the logo exists anywhere as a PNG, start from that instead.
No. The EPS is written with RGB colours, the colours the trace found in your image, and a gradient is flattened to one average colour because the file uses flat fills. CMYK conversion and spot colour names belong in your prepress step or your printer's RIP, where the right values for the press and the substrate are known.
Illustrator, CorelDRAW and Affinity Designer open it as editable paths. Holes stay holes: fills use the even-odd rule, so the inside of an O or an A is open rather than filled in.
The preview is free without an account and carries a watermark. Plans start at $7.99/month for 25 conversions a month, with unused conversions rolling over.
